Pics Brown Recluse

What the heck type of spider is this?

Okay. I live in Oregon, in a mild climate. As far as I know, the only super-dangerous spiders we have around here are “Hobo” spiders — similar to a Brown Recluse — and the classic Black Widow.

But there’s this spider I have never, ever seen or heard of before hanging in a web above my front door. It is amber colored — a kind of light, tan-ish brown — with really long legs that stem out from what looks EXACTLY like a human skull-shaped plate on its back.

I am not making this up. There’s this flat, pear-shaped thing on its back — almost like a crab’s shell — and it’s got dark brown flecks on it that look like eye sockets. It’s the creepiest thing ever.

Has anyone ever heard of this spider? Is it poisonous?

It’s seriously the most revolting thing. I’ve started using the back door because I don’t want to go near it, but maybe I’ll work up the nerve and take some pics if you need it to answer my question!

from your description it kinda sounds like the tetragnatha spider, there are hundreds of species and are most common in the tropics and sub tropics but can be found all over the world

Spider bites can be quite deadly specially if it comes from a poisonous spider specie. I always take spider bites seriously and have a doctor take a look at the bite site for proper evaluation. `”:”.

If we are talking about common spider bites, it would be not to serious and just a dab of Calamine would solve the problem. -

Several spiders can protect your home from pesky invaders. Cellar spiders-the web-spinning species most common in homes-have been known to prey on black widow spiders. Some, like the spiny orb weaver and house spiders, can hunt crickets and small flying insects. Wolf spiders can help rid lawns and gardens of common pests. Even the brown recluse-the most dangerous spider to humans-can assist by eating cockroaches, silverfish and other soft-bodied insects…
